The New Albany High School boys tennis team ended Upper Arlington's eight-year run of representing the Central District in the Ohio Tennis Coaches Association state team tournament.

The New Albany High School boys tennis team ended Upper Arlington's eight-year run of representing the Central District in the Ohio Tennis Coaches Association state team tournament by defeating the Golden Bears 3-2 in the second round on April 20.

New Albany's victory snapped a 27-match winning streak for UA, which won the Division I OTCA state title last year. New Albany will face either Groveport or Dublin Jerome in the third round.

New Albany junior Oliver Sybert defeated UA sophomore Brandon Griffin 7-6, 7-6 at third singles to give the Eagles the win. Also earning wins for the Eagles were senior John Hendrix and freshman Steven Miller Jr., who defeated senior Eric Vannatta and sophomore Nate Wallace 7-6, 6-4 at first doubles and juniors Jordan Rabe and Ameen Farwana, who defeated sophomore Peter Pema and freshman Jeffrey Melvin 6-1, 6-4 at second doubles.

Winning for UA were senior Billy Weldon, who defeated senior Sean Yun 6-1, 6-1 at first singles and sophomore Stu Little, who defeated senior Sam Romanoff 6-1, 6-1 at second singles.
