Jack Hendrix, who was projected as the Upper Arlington High School baseball team's top pitcher this season, underwent season-ending surgery on his right arm April 12.

According to Golden Bears coach Tom Marker, the junior injured his elbow during a season-opening 11-6 win at Holtville (Ala.) on March 26. Hendrix still earned the win, striking out six and walking two in 4 1/3 innings before he was pulled from the game.

Hendrix made a pinch-hitting appearance during a 10-2 win at Watkins Memorial on April 2, grounding out in the seventh inning.

UA was 5-3 overall and 1-2 in the OCC-Central Division entering an April 13 home game against Central Crossing.

"We have a system and guys will have to buy in. If they do that, we'll be fine," Marker said. "We'll bring some younger guys up and give them a shot to do their thing. If they can throw three pitches consistently for strikes, they will be fine."
