The Silver Knights will be looking to beat the Bruins for the second consecutive season while aiming for a much better overall performance Saturday, Sept. 3, at Upper Arlington.

Ready won 34-33 last year as Briggs failed on three extra points and two two-point conversions.

Much of what the Knights will do to have more success should involve junior running back Devin Dukes. He rushed for three touchdowns in last year's game, including a 12-yard score in the fourth quarter to give Ready a 34-27 lead.

"He's physically more mature than he was last year, now at about 220 to 224 (pounds)," coach Brian Cross said.

The Knights, who finished 6-4 last season, opened Aug. 26 by losing to Whitehall 39-25.

In the opener, 47 of the game's 64 points were scored in the final quarter as Ready couldn't hang on to a 10-7 lead.

Austin Aiello threw for two touchdowns, including one of 45 yards to Dukes, who also added a 13-yard scoring run. Dukes finished with 130 yards rushing on 16 carries.

Ready was one of seven teams to score 28 or more points against the Bruins last season.

Last year's matchup began on a Friday night but wasn't completed until the next morning because of a lightning delay.

The Knights also will be hoping for a better performance defensively.

Briggs senior running back A.J. Houchins rushed for two touchdowns in last season's game and finished with 1,200 yards a year ago.

Briggs went 4-6 a year ago, including earning one of its wins by forfeit. It opened Aug. 26 by beating Linden-McKinley 27-6 as Houchins rushed for 96 yards and one score.

The Bruins have a new quarterback in junior Terrance Yates. He'll face a Ready defense that features seniors Patrick Jansen (DL), Anthony Baum (DL), Brandan Burks (LB), Donald Butts (LB) and Kevin Morrison (DB) and junior Ryan Wood (LB) as key returnees.

Tasked with holding Dukes in check is a Briggs defense that returns seven starters, led by junior defensive back Mareo Turner Jr.

Also back for Ready on offense are Burks (RB), Baum (OL) and senior Daris Martinez (OL).

"We've got fairly good depth at most positions," Cross said.
