The holidays will officially arrive in Westerville this weekend, with the annual city tree-lighting.

The ceremony will be hosted on the steps of City Hall, 21 S. State St., beginning at 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 2.

The tree-lighting and other events slated for the weekend mark the start of the holiday shopping season in Uptown Westerville, with many shops staying open late.

On Saturday, Uptown merchants will feature special sales, refreshments and activities as part of the Home for the Holidays event, sponsored by the Westerville Uptown Merchants Association.

The Hanby House, 160 W. Main St., will host its annual Christmas Open House on Saturday evening starting at 7 p.m.

The weekend will wrap up with the third annual Westerville Sertoma Rudolph Run and Childrenís Christmas parade, scheduled for Sunday afternoon.

The 5K race starts at 1:15 p.m. from the intersection of South State Street and Schrock Road.

Following the race, the annual Childrenís Christmas parade will step off at 1:30 p.m., with Jym Ganahl, local meteorologist, serving as grand marshal.

The parade will start in the east parking lot of the Chase building, off Park Meadow Road, travel along Schrock Road to State Street, and run north through Uptown Westerville, ending at St. Paulís Church near the intersection of State Street and County Line Road.
