The Fourth of July in Westerville once again will include a day full of activities, all set for Wednesday, July 4.

Events will begin with the annual Rotary 5K Run and walk at 8 a.m. at Alum Creek Park North, 221 W. Main St.

Registration for the run will begin at 6:45 a.m., and the run will be followed by 400-yard and 800-yard dashes for children. The awards ceremony will be at 9:25 a.m. Runners and walkers are able to register in advance by visiting premierraces.com.

The Uptown Westerville Farmers Market will have special holiday hours.

The market will run from 9 a.m. to noon in its usual location, the parking lot at the northeast corner of State and Home streets.

The annual Rotary Club of Westerville Independence Day Parade will begin at 1 p.m.

The parade will travel along State Street, beginning at Heatherdown Drive and moving north to St. Paul the Apostle Church, 313 N. State St. (The southern route was changed the last two years due to South State Street construction, but returns to its traditional start at Heatherdown and State this year.)

Along the parade route, food will be collected for donation to the Westerville Area Resource Ministry.

This year's parade theme will be "Peace, Love, Trust and Freedom."

The parade theme was submitted to Rotary by Angelo Ricci, a fifth grade student at St. Paul Elementary School.

For his winning submission in the parade theme contest open to all Westerville elementary students, Ricci received a $100 check and will ride in a place of honor in the parade: on the Rotary Club of Westerville float.

Honor Flight Columbus directors Bill and Bobbi Richards will serve as the parade's grand marshals.

The Westerville Symphony will perform its annual "Sounds of Freedom" concert, featuring patriotic music, at 9 p.m. at the Westerville Sports Complex.

The concert will be followed at 10 p.m. by fireworks, put on by Rotary and the Westerville Department of Parks and Recreation.

The fireworks will be launched from Alum Creek Park South, 535 Park Meadow Road. Music coordinating with the fireworks display will be aired on 103.9 FM.

The rain date for the fireworks display is 10 p.m. July 5.
