It has been said that things in life get better with age and the same holds true with the Westerville Area Chamber of Commerce's 10th annual Taste of Westerville that will take place from 7-10 p.m. Friday, April 19 at The Lakes Golf and Country Club. Registration is only $40 a person and includes samplings of food from more than 20 local food providers, wine and beer tastings and a silent auction and raffle.

"The 10th Annual Taste of Westerville will be a fun and exciting event right here in our backyards," said Derrick Manley, co-chairman for the event and branch manager at KEMBA Financial Credit Union. "What a wonderful opportunity for our friends, neighbors and small businesses to get out and meet other people of the community."

This event, originally named the Sensational Spring Social, changed to the Taste of Westerville last year to truly encompass what the feature of the event is all about -- the participating restaurants, caterers and banquet facilities serving our Westerville area community.

"Last year we had record-breaking participation and look forward to even more attendees in 2013. As committee chair for the event, I am most excited about the added food vendors we have this year that continue to help breathe new life to this event even after 10 wonderful years," added Manley.

Many of those restaurants that participated last year will return with a handful of new ones. The Taste of Westerville allows participating vendors a chance to showcase their most popular dishes which will range from sushi to pulled pork and sizzling steak sliders. There also will be many opportunities to appease the sweetest of sweet tooth's.

As the providers prepare their best dish participants will get to weigh in on the "People's Choice" winner. Our food critics, made up of local media personalities, will choose the winner in other categories like "Best Presentation" and "Best of the Best."

Participating food vendors this year include: Bel Lago Waterfront Dinning, Chef Honda, Cheryl & Company, Chocolaterie Stam, City BBQ, Coldstone Creamery, Earth Fare, Friendship Village of Columbus, Giammarco's Pizza and Pasta, Gigi's Cupcakes, Jason's Deli, Kona Ice of Columbus, MCL Restaurant & Bakery, Mitchell's Steakhouse-Polaris, Nicole's Catering, Old Bag of Nails Pub, Polaris Grill, Sandman Gourmet, Skyline Chili, Starbucks, The Lakes Golf and Country Club.

"I am impressed with the time and effort the restaurants and caterers invest with their presentation and food quality. It also reminds me of the great culinary gems we have in our community," said one of last year's food critics, and Sunny 95 radio personality, Mark Buckingham.

As always there will be an exquisite selection of fine wines to compliment such a cast of tastes and treats. The samplings of fine wines come from a variety of countries Argentina/ Chile, Australia, Italy, Spain and more local tastes from Ohio and California. The variety will be sure to astonish even the novice of wine connoisseurs' palates.

Maybe wine isn't your favorite choice for a satisfying sampling. Well, we've got you covered. The Elevator Brewing Company will have four beers fresh from the tap for all to try. Brewed locally, all four will be different in tastes and distinct in their refreshing flavor. New to Ohio since January, Kona Brewing Company will bring the tropical tastes of Hawaii to Westerville with two of their brews full of tropical hops and passion fruits.

Another exciting feature this year are delicious gin, vodka and bourbon mixed drink samples from Watershed Distillery. From the variety of foods to the selections of wines, brews and spirits there will surely be something for everyone, even in the exquisite silent auction and raffle items that will rival that of last year. Be sure to join us at this community event, open to all.
