A 25-year-old Etna Township woman was charged with possession of a controlled substance and drug abuse instruments after using drugs in the bathroom of Mount Carmel St. Ann's. 500 S. Cleveland Ave., March 18, Westerville police reported.

The woman was in the hospital for treatment of a leg infection and possible MRSA, and nurses contacted security when she and a friend went into the bathroom of her room for about 45 minutes, police reports said.

Hospital security arrived and found an unlabeled bottle of blue pills when they searched her belongings. Hospital pharmacists identified the medications as several different drugs, including Xanax. Security also found a spoon with blue residue and hypodermic needles.

The woman later admitted that she had been "cooking" the Xanax to inject.

Police confiscated the drugs and issued the woman a summons to appear in court on the charges, and she remained in the hospital for treatment, reports said.

In other recent incident reports from the Westerville Division of Police:

• Police are investigating a report of nearly $1,500 missing from the safe of a restaurant in the 500 block of South State Street.

The manager reported arriving at the store the morning of March 19 to find the safe emptied of cash, containing only two empty cash register drawers. No forced entry was found on either door into the building.

• A 27-year-old Westerville man was arrested in the early morning of March 20 after "breaking things and tearing up" his parents' home on Llewellyn Avenue and struggling with officers attempting to arrest him.

The man's parents called police to report the incident, and when officers arrived he attempted to run away from them. When officers got him into their vehicle, he violently kicked the door and slammed his head into bars in the back seat, reports said. Eventually the officers had to pull him out of the vehicle and subdue him again.

The man was charged with assault, vandalism, resisting arrest, obstructing official business and disorderly conduct.

• A 47-year-old Galloway man was charged with OVI, possession of a controlled substance and open container after he struck a tree on Spring Road while driving about 10 p.m. March 21.

When officers arrived, they found an open, discarded bottle of alcohol and a bottle of medication not prescribed to the man, reports said, He failed a sobriety test and was charged and released to his girlfriend.
