Westerville South sets sail with the spring musical Anything Goes at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday, April 24-26.

The 1934 musical features music and lyrics by Cole Porter and takes place aboard an ocean liner bound from New York to London.

Theater Director Matt Wolfe said that all 65 students who auditioned two months ago made it into the cast.

"My philosophy is that if you want to be in a high school musical, then as long as you are willing to put in the time and effort, you are always welcome to perform," he said.

In addition to the cast, 20 students are in the crew and 25 students are in the pit orchestra.

Wolfe said that when people come to see the musical, they will likely recognize some of the songs.

"It's almost like a musical revue but with a storyline," he said. "When the audience leaves the show, they will leave with a song or two stuck in their head."

The toe-tapping songs are accompanied by frequent high-energy dance numbers.

For sophomore Desmond Fernandez, who plays Moonface Martin, this was his first time dancing onstage.

"I knew how to dance, but just not this type of dancing," he said. "The dance rehearsals were rough at first but after multiple attempts, I'm slowly perfecting it."

Along with elaborate dancing, the show also features clever puns.

Scott Barclay, a junior who plays Elisha Whitney, said that even after all the rehearsals, the cast still laughs at all the jokes and puns.

"We still haven't gotten seasick of it," he joked.

Tickets cost $10 and are available at the door, or through contacting Wolfe at mtwolfe@otterbein.edu or 614-797-6055.
