Have you ever contemplated running for office, but weren't sure what was involved?

Join us in June for the second biannual Election Academy and "see how they run." Election Academy was developed by the Westerville Area Chamber of Commerce to educate individuals in the Westerville area who are considering running for an elected office.

Whether seeking public office or serving as a campaign treasurer, manager or volunteer, attendees will find Election Academy invaluable in its provision of information on running a successful campaign, serving in public office and building coalitions.

Selected speakers include: representatives from the offices of Ohio Secretary of State and Ohio Ethics Commission, a former Westerville City Council member and Westerville Board of Education member, and attorney Joe Barone, who has served as treasurer of numerous local campaigns, and a graduation speaker to be determined. The academy sponsor is Two Men and a Truck.

"These speakers will be sharing a wealth of knowledge gained from their years of experience in a wide array of public service," said Janet Tressler-Davis, president and CEO of the Westerville Chamber.

Election Academy will be held from 6:45 to 9 p.m. June 4, 11 and 18. Locations will include the City Building, 64 E. Walnut St. for Session 1; OhioHealth Westerville Medical Campus or the Westerville Public Library, Session 2; and Westerville Area Chamber of Commerce office, Session 3.

A reception to include members of City Council, the school board and county trustees (who will receive invitations to attend) will be held at 8:15 p.m. following the final session.

Cost for all three sessions is $45 for the first person and $25 for an additional person from the same campaign team.

"The information and training provided by the Chamber's Election Academy is extremely important for those seeking public office," said Jo Ann Davidson, former Speaker of the Ohio House of Representatives and past graduation speaker for the Election Academy. "The Westerville Area Chamber of Commerce is to be complimented for understanding this need and for providing this service for those interested in serving in public office."
