Westerville's eighth community-sponsored Honor Flight of veterans to Washington, D.C., will take place Sept. 10.

This year's honorees are all female veterans.

The Honor Flight program flies senior veterans from World War II and the Korean conflict to the nation's capital to see their monuments, free of charge, as a way of thanking them for their service. Each trip to Washington features a "mail call," where veterans receive messages of gratitude from children and adults.

To date, thousands of dollars have been raised in Westerville for this program.

The public is invited to welcome home the returning veterans on the evening of Sept. 10 at John Glenn Columbus International Airport. Participants are being asked to gather in the Southwest terminal area around 8:45 p.m.
