Westerville South High School boys soccer coach Derek Hone resigned on Nov. 29. Hone met with athletics director Scott Dorne and some of his returning players to break the news.

"I spent more than half my life either watching the program or being the j.v. coach or coaching the team" said Hone, a 1997 South graduate. "I wanted to get the program back on track this fall before stepping down. Basically I met my soul mate this fall and I want to concentrate on more than just soccer, get married and start a family."

Hone plans to continue coaching club soccer at younger age levels.

Hone coached south for five seasons, leading the Wildcats to a district runner-up finish in 2006. After a 2-13 season in 2009, South won three of its last four games last fall to finish 7-8-4.
