American swimming records don't last long when it comes to 2007 Westerville Central graduate Austin Staab and Stanford's 200-yard freestyle relay team.

At the NCAA championships in Minneapolis on March 24, Staab joined fellow Cardinal seniors Alex Coville and Jakob Allen and sophomore Aaron Wayne to swim the 200 free relay in an American record time of 1 minute, 15.84 seconds.

The four then broke their own record by going 1:15.26 to win the event in the night finals.

Individually, Staab won the 200 individual medley (1:41.57) and the 100 butterfly (44.69), and was sixth in the 100 free (42.3). He also swam on the 400 medley relay that placed third (3:06.53), the 200 medley relay that was fifth (1:25.36) and the 400 free relay team that placed ninth (2:49.54).

Stanford placed third as a team with 278.5 points, behind California (352) and Texas (288.5).
