The Whitehall Division of Police recently concluded an operation with the Ohio Investigative Unit concerning the sale of alcohol to minors at Whitehall liquor-license establishments.

"Our effort coincided with prom season," Whitehall Lt. Mark Newcomb said, adding the effort was twofold.

"We tackled it from both sides: minors who try to buy alcohol and retailers who don't check IDs."

On the evenings of April 29 and 30, agents visited 30 Whitehall restaurants and retail stores, Newcomb said.

At five locations, employees at the business failed to check for identification and sold alcohol to an underage person, he said.

Citations were issued to two establishments April 29 and to three establishments April 30.

Newcomb identified the sites cited April 29 as United Dairy Farmers, 4890 E. Main St.; and La Michoacana, 166 S. Hamilton Road.

The three businesses cited April 30 were Chipotle, 3822 E. Broad St.; Beer Dock East, 125 Robinwood Ave.; and United Dairy Farmers, 4374 E. Broad St.

The operation also entailed observing whether any underage individuals attempted to solicit others to purchase alcohol, but no such incidents were observed during the operation, Newcomb said.
