Whitehall police earlier this month arrested Vernon Charles Gomez, 26, of Parkcove Drive in Columbus for kidnapping, a first-degree felony, and domestic violence and assault, both first-degree misdemeanors.

Gahanna police dispatched Whitehall police to a Rock Fork Boulevard residence on a domestic-violence complaint. There, a Cambridge woman recounted an incident that reportedly occurred about 3:30 a.m. June 11 at a residence in the 200 block of North Hamilton Road.

The victim reported Gomez, her ex-husband, woke her up. A male at the residence intervened in the disturbance and the victim barricaded herself in another bedroom. Gomez allegedly forced entry, pulled the victim by the hair and threatened to kill everyone in the house before forcing the woman into his vehicle, according to reports.

The victim reported her ex-husband drove north on North Hamilton Road while questioning her and punching her in the face.

While near a store on North Hamilton Road in Gahanna, the woman yelled for help and opened the car door, jumping from the vehicle as it was moving, police said.

The woman ran to the closed store and to a nearby business, asking employees at both places to call police.

According to police, the victim's divorce was final June 3 and she has two young children with the suspect, whom knew she was coming to the Columbus area but was not bringing the children.

Witnesses at the apartment in Whitehall included a man at the apartment who reported he was asleep in another room when Gomez awakened him and demanded to know if he had slept with his wife. A neighbor witnessed Gomez force the woman into his vehicle, reports said.

Police found Gomez at his residence along with his vehicle, which had the woman's property inside.

Gomez was arrested and transported to the Franklin County jail.
