Whitehall Community Celebration Association officials aren't quite sure when Breakfast with Santa began, but its continuing success is not in question.

Hundreds of children enjoyed a few moments with the man in the red suit Dec. 17 at Etna Road Elementary School.

"We've been doing this for so many years. Any time that we can celebrate with our kids, we want to do it," said Karen Conison, president of the association.

Admission was $1 or a donation of one canned-food item to benefit the food pantry at Victory Ministries' Center of Hope in Whitehall.

Among the visitors at Breakfast with Santa were Anne Hanson and three of her children.

"We come here every year; it's a great event," Hanson said.

The fifth-grade choir at Etna Road Elementary School, a band from Rosemore Middle School and a handbell choir from Whitehall-Yearling High School performed.

The event also showcased another WCCA program: a holiday-lighting contest.

WCCA members already selected a top three in three sections of the city.

Breakfast with Santa visitors voted to determine an overall winner.

The winning residence is at 570 Pierce Ave.

It bested first-place selections in two other sections of the city at 4564 Saint Rita Lane and at 4665 Faith Ave.
