For the seventh year, Leadership Worthington is set to raise money for scholarships by showcasing the city's best spellers.

The organization's annual spelling bee will be held at 5 p.m. Tuesday, March 24, with team competitions for adults and children.

Proceeds from sponsors of the event and the participants will go toward Leadership Worthington's student scholarships for adult, high school and middle school leadership programs.

"This is a really fun annual event," Leadership Worthington executive director Joan Bird said. "Everyone has a great time working in teams, supporting fun-learning environments and raising money for future leadership students."

Teams of three compete in each bee, with a fourth serving as an alternate. Local businesses sponsor the teams, and winners and participants win various prizes. Door prizes are donated by participating companies.

Students in a Leadership Worthington adult class started the adult bee 22 years ago. The youth event is sponsored jointly by the Worthington Educational Foundation and Leadership Worthington.

This year, more than 20 companies are registered to participate.

The event is open to the public, and Leadership Worthington will provide "refreshments" for participants.

Leadership Worthington is a nonprofit organization with leadership programs for those who work and/or live within the Worthington City School District.
