* Northwest Library and Worthington Park Library's homework help centers are open from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays. The Old Worthington Library center is open from 3 to 6 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays.

* During the final installment in the Plant It Forward series, Joe Boggs, an assistant professor at The Ohio State University Extension-Hamilty County, will share his secrets for assessing and encouraging the health of garden soil. The session begins at 7 p.m. May 21, at the Griswold Center, 777 High St.

* Kids can meet the Pete the Cat costumed character during a Northwest Library event at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 23. Stories, songs and art activities also are planned.

* To volunteer at the library this summer, teens must be at least 12 years old or entering the seventh grade this fall and attend one orientation session. Upcoming sessions are scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday, May 21, and 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 26, at Northwest Library; at 11:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Saturday, May 23, and at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 26, at Old Worthington Library; and at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, May 23, and at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 27, at Worthington Park Library.

* Old Worthington Library's Thursday Morning Book Discussion Group will discuss Claire Rothman's The Heart Specialist at 10:30 a.m. May 28.
