The annual Highlands Alternative Gift Fair will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dec. 13 at the Highlands Presbyterian Church, 6909 Smoky Row Road. The fair is an opportunity to purchase a variety of gifts that benefit people all over the world and honor loved ones who receive a card describing the gift.

The fair is an opportunity to purchase a variety of gifts that benefit people all over the world and honor loved ones who receive a card describing the gift.

Examples include food for hungry and homeless families in the U.S. and Canada; bicycles for healthcare workers in Kenya, Namibia, Tanzania and Zambia; freeing women in sexual slavery in Cambodia, the Dominican Republic, India and the Philippines; safe havens for orphans in Mexico; and books for school libraries in Haiti. Participants may sponsor a child at the Montana de Luz orphanage in Honduras which treats, houses, and educates children who are HIV positive. Equal Exchange Coffee and Tea will be for sale as well as fair-traded items made by artisans worldwide, available from the Global Village.
