Worthington Presbyterian Church will host a presentation with world-renowned biblical scholar Walter Brueggemann at 4 p.m. Dec. 6 at the church, 773 High St.

Brueggemann will preach on the topic "Disciplines Shared in Gratitude" during a service to install the Rev. Thomas F. Rice as pastor of discipleship at the Worthington church.

A reception, open to the public, will follow in the church's fellowship hall.

Brueggemann, 82, has written hundreds of articles and dozens of books, including The Prophetic Imagination and Praying the Psalms. An ordained United Church of Christ pastor, he is professor emeritus of Old Testament at Columbia Theological Seminary in Decatur, Ga.

Rice brings more than two decades of experience to his role as pastor for discipleship. His focus includes Christian education, mission outreach and spiritual care of members.

For nearly 11 years, Rice served as pastor/head of staff at First Presbyterian Church of Royal Oak, Mich. Previously, he served churches in DeKalb, Ill., and Grosse Pointe, Mich.
