A Hilliard man accused of writing anti-Muslim comments on a Perry Township mosque last month has been indicted with committing a hate crime.

Todd M. Williams, 44, was charged with desecration, ethnic intimidation and criminal mischief for vandalizing the Ahlul-Bayt Society Islamic Center, 2580 W. Dublin-Granville Road, on Feb. 11, Franklin County Prosecutor Ron O'Brien said at a news conference March 2.

The maximum penalty is one year in jail under the desecration offense, a fifth-degree felony. The other two charges are misdemeanors that carry shorter jail times.

O'Brien said Williams was seen in a security camera video at the mosque writing "Allah Is A Fraud Dum Dum," "Repent Turn To True God," and "Jesus Or Burn 4 Ever" on the glass doors at the mosque's entrance.

Perry Township detective Rick Amweg said Williams does not have a criminal record. Amweg said Williams gave police no motive for the vandalism, and they have no information that he belongs to a hate group.
