American Legion Post 254 in Johnstown will hold its 15th annual spring pancake day and sixth annual spring “Golf Auction Extravaganza” from 7 to 11 a.m. Saturday, March 11, at the post, 180 W. Maple St.

Post 254 will serve all-you-can-eat pancakes and large link sausages.

Rounds of golf donated by 25-30 public and private golf courses will be sold to the highest bidders during the auction, which will start at 9 a.m.

Additionally, the ladies’ auxiliary will have buckeye candy and other items available.

The auction, which began as a secondary part of the pancake main event, once featured such prizes as car washes or items that people hadn't opened around the house. But once a golf package was introduced, the emphasis quickly changed.

The event, which also will include a 50/50 drawing, is a major fundraiser for Post 254.

Post 254 uses funds raised at the breakfast and auction for various events and donations in the community.

The post donates American flags to sports teams and firehouses and provides grave markers and flags to military funerals, among other donations.

The funds also will go toward events like the Easter egg hunt, Fourth of July fireworks, the Miss Firecracker pageant and Christmas toy drive, as well as several other recurring activities.
