Village Connections will hold Derby Day at a fresh, new "track."
The group's third annual fundraiser will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. May 6 in the Grange Insurance Audubon Center, 505 W. Whittier St.
Tickets are $60 each and available for purchase at www.villageconnections.columbus.org.
"It's a fantastic party," said Jim Plunkett, a member of Village Connections' board of directors.
Attractions will include the live broadcast on a large-screen TV of the Kentucky Derby, said Kristen Schweitzer, executive director of Village Connections.
Patrons are asked to dress in appropriate southern or derby-style clothes complete with a fancy chapeau, which is a hallmark of the Kentucky Derby, Schweitzer said.
Watershed Distillery, located in the Grandview Heights area, will provide bourbon for handcrafted cocktails and mint juleps. Land-Grant Brewing Co., based in Franklinton, will serve beer.
Admission includes appetizers made by caterer Bosc + Brie.
Grassinine, a local bluegrass band, will perform.
Village Connections is a nonprofit organization that provides services, for a fee, to seniors looking to age in their homes.
There are 55 dues-paying members. The agency serves residents of German Village, Merion Village, Schumacher Place, the Brewery District and downtown.
"My wife and I realize we would like to stay in this community and the services Village Connections offers will help make that happen," said Ed Elberfeld, who helped found Connections and is a member along with his wife, Barb.
