The Union County Sheriffs Office and the Multi-County Crash Investigation Team are investigating an injury crash that occurred on Collins Road on April 17.

About 8:45 p.m., the sheriff’s office received a 911 call from a resident in the 20000 block of Collins Road in Allen Township, reporting a serious motor vehicle crash.

Deputies and units from the Allen Township Fire Department responded to the scene and found a 2016 Toyota Scion tC resting on its top in the ditch, according to a news release from the Union County Sheriff's Office.

The driver, Amanda N. Diedrich, 19, of Marysville, was flown from the scene by MedFlight to Grant Medical Center and was listed in stable condition Tuesday morning, April 18.

The preliminary investigation has determined Diedrich was traveling northbound on Collins Road when the vehicle crested a small hill and went airborne, the news release said. The vehicle then traveled off the right side of the road, striking a mailbox and a driveway, the release said. The vehicle then was propelled several feet into the air, striking trees and a utility pole.

After landing, the vehicle rolled onto its top, and the engine and transmission were separated from the vehicle and thrown about 125 feet into a wooded area, the release said.

Investigators have determined that excessive speed is a contributing factor in the crash, the release said.

The Multi-County Crash Investigation team comprises the Champaign, Hardin, Logan and Union county sheriff’s offices and the Marysville Police Department.

The Union County Emergency Management Agency assisted in the incident, according to the release.
