Dublin City Council voted April 24 to approve Karvo Cos. Inc. to carry out construction of the Avery Road-Brand Road roundabout.

Karvo submitted a bid of a little more than $1.4 million, the lowest out of six total submitted bids.

Other bidders included Shelly & Sands, Columbus Asphalt Paving, Strawser Paving Co., Trucco Construction Co. and Complete General Construction Co.

Construction is slated for June and is scheduled to conclude Oct. 6.

Brand Road will stay open for the majority of the project. Traffic is scheduled to be closed for seven days at the intersection of Brand and Avery during the final phase of the project.

City OKs bargaining pact with police

Dublin City Council on April 24 approved a collective-bargaining agreement with the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 9, a bargaining unit made up of 67 employees with the Dublin City Police Department.

The agreement is from Jan. 1 of this year through Dec. 31, 2019 and includes a wage package expected to cost the city $550,000 more over the term of the three-year contract than the previous contract's cost figure.

Under the new contract, employees would have a 2.5 percent wage increase effective Jan. 1 of this year, and a 2.75 percent increase per year for 2018 and 2019. On call pay was also increased from $1.40 per hour to $1.50 per hour.

The changes also reflected updates to health insurance to make sure the city would remain compliant with Federal Equal Employment Opportunity Commission rules.
