A man told Hilliard Division of Police officers his vehicle was stolen between 2:30 and 3:20 a.m. April 17 from his residence in the 6100 block of Longwood Drive.

The vehicle, which was worth $15,000, was recovered two days later, but without several items of personal property inside it.

A 9mm handgun, ammunition, tools, a cellphone and other items worth a total of $2,230 were inside the vehicle, police said.

Officers believe the owner, after unloading the trunk, left the keys to the vehicle inside the trunk, officer Hyda Slone said.

The vehicle could be started without placing a key in the ignition so long as the keys are in close proximity, she said.

Columbus Division of Police officers recovered the vehicle April 19 in a nearby apartment complex on Goldenstrand Court in Columbus.

The gun and other items were missing, Slone said.
