Hilliard Division of Police officers have taken six reports this month from residents who said their mail was stolen April 1 or 2 from a mailbox at the Hilliard post office, 4000 Leap Road.

It is possible more residents will come forward as they learn checks and other correspondence did not arrive at the intended location, officer Hyda Slone said.

Slone said although Hilliard detectives are assisting in the investigation and officers will take reports, the investigation is under the jurisdiction of the U.S. Postal Service.

Kathryn Woliung, a spokeswoman for the U.S. Postal Inspection Service in Columbus, said she could not comment on any ongoing investigation of the theft of mail from the Hilliard branch.

A resident contacted ThisWeek about the potential theft earlier this month after he discovered his mailed payments for several bills had not been delivered. He said post-office employees had told him about a mailbox being broken into after he inquired about "lost mail."
