Organizers of the inaugural Picktown Palooza festival have announced two national acts will provide the main stage entertainment July 15.

Soul Asylum and Cracker will be co-headliners for the event in Pickerington's Victory Park.

Cracker is scheduled to take the stage at 7:30 p.m. followed by Soul Asylum, which will go on at 9:30 and play until 11 p.m.

Picktown Palooza Director Chris Stein said securing the two national acts to play the festival was a big deal.

"I had looked at different options and all of the sudden these two popped up," he said.

"They both are coming in from a show in Indiana.

"This was a no-brainer and we are getting some pretty good buzz around it. There is an influx of people buying passes just for that day," Stein said.

Minneapolis-based Soul Asylum garnered national acclaim for "Runaway Train," which won a Grammy Award in 1994 for Best Rock Song, as well as for the hit song, "Misery."

Cracker is an American roots band from California that mixes blues, country and rock.

The band scored heavy airplay for songs such as "Low" and "Teen Angst" in the mid-1990s.

Stein said Picktown Palooza also would showcase 12 local musical artists.

July 14 will be "Country Night" with Nashville-based recording artist The Kate Hasting Band.

Picktown Palooza is scheduled to run July 13 through16 at Victory Park in downtown Pickerington.

Live entertainment for all four days is free. Parking in the city lots near the festival will be free.

Daily admission will be $5 or a four-day pass can be purchased for $10. Children ages 12 and younger will be admitted at no charge, Stein said.

Target retail stores are partnering with the festival to raffle $25 gift cards and backpacks containing school supplies.

"How it works is that when people come to the Palooza, they can fill out a form at the Target booth," he said.

Those who win gift cards will be able to pick them up at one of the Reynoldsburg Target stores on sales-tax-free weekend Aug. 4 to 6.

Other activities scheduled for the Picktown Palooza include a Freedom 5K and Kids Fun Run on July 4, a car and bike show July 15, carnival rides, a Kids' Corner and food.
