Pickerington Community Theatre will present "Annie, The Musical," a longstanding fan favorite that was a huge hit on Broadway for many years as well as a popular movie produced in 1982.

"Annie" will be performed in the Heritage Theater, 100 North East Street between Heritage Elementary School and Pickerington Local School District Board of Education office in Olde Pickerington Village. Shows are planned for 8 p.m. Fridays July 14 and 21, and Saturdays, July 15 and 22.

A 2 p.m. matinee is planned for Sundays, July 16 and 23

"Annie" includes popular songs such as as "It's the Hard Knock Life," "Easy Street," "I Don't Need Anything but You," and "Tomorrow."

It features a cast of 61 performers supported by a 16-piece orchestra.

The production stars Mary Kate Gebhart as Annie, Brian Ellis as Daddy Warbucks, Julia McCafferty as Miss Hannigan, Bethany Kerns as Grace, Dave Zwiebel as Rooster and Jenny Small as Lily.

"Annie" is directed by Chris Gallaugher and the music director is Sue Laney.

Gallaugher said the show resonates with audiences because of its message of hope and perseverance.

"It's about Little Orphan Annie," Gallaugher said.

"She grew up in the great depression. Her parents had to leave her. She believes they'll come back to get her some day.

"She's taken in by Daddy Warbucks, who at that time was the richest man in the country. Her optimism has a positive impact on his life. This is a story about overcoming hard times.

"People who come out to see the show will have a great time," said Gallaugher.
