Delaware County Sheriff's deputies recovered hundreds of dollars worth of smartphones and related equipment after catching up with a theft suspect earlier this month in Orange Township.

Deputies responded to a report of a theft in progress about 7:30 a.m. Aug. 8 at a business in the 8600 block of Columbus Pike in Orange Township. Someone stole $370 worth of merchandise from the store, according to police reports.

About a half-hour later, authorities caught up with a suspect's vehicle in the 7600 block of Worthington Road.

Deputies recovered two smartphones, together worth $148; a two-way radio valued at $99; and a backpack valued at $50, among other items, according to sheriff's reports. They also seized three containers of a substance suspected to be methamphetamine, reports said.

Deputies arrested a 24-year-old Marion man on charges of drug possession, a fifth-degree felony; theft, a first-degree misdemeanor; and criminal trespassing, a fourth-degree misdemeanor, according to sheriff's reports.

In other recent county sheriff's reports:

* A man reported a theft took place before 9:15 a.m. Aug. 15 in the 2600 block of Bold Venture Drive in Orange Township. Someone stole tools valued at $3,016 from the site, according to sheriff's reports.

* An employee reported a theft in progress shortly before 11:30 a.m. Aug. 17 at a business in the 100 block of Meadow View Avenue in Orange Township. Someone stole four pairs of shoes, together valued at $334, reports said.

An employee of another business in the same block reported theft occurred shortly before 8:30 p.m. Aug. 12. Someone stole a vacuum cleaner valued at $600 from the business, according to sheriff's reports.

* A woman reported a theft from a vehicle took place between 2 p.m. Aug. 12 and 11:45 a.m. Aug. 18 in the 6200 block of Rail Timber Way in Orange Township. Someone stole a GPS unit valued at $250 and clothing worth $20 from the car, reports said.

* A woman reported a theft from a vehicle occurred between 8:30 and 9 p.m. Aug. 4 in the 4100 block of Lewis Center Road in Orange Township. Someone stole a purse valued at $200 containing $220 in cash from the car, according to sheriff's reports.
