Voters in the Big Walnut and Delaware school districts will have one fewer candidate to choose from in November's school board races.

The Delaware County Board of Elections in August did not certify Big Walnut Local School District board incumbent Nicole Hess for the Nov. 7 ballot. Karla Herron, director of the elections board, said via email the board determined Hess' petition to run for office had 19 valid signatures when she needed 25.

The board also did not certify Corie Dunfee Thompson, who filed to run for a seat on the Delaware City School District board. Herron said the board determined Thompson's petition had 63 valid signatures when she needed 75.

One write-in candidate has been certified for each contest.

Liana Lee, 47, of 12464 Monkey Hollow Road, Sunbury, is a write-in candidate for Big Walnut school board.

Mark H. Butler, who withdrew his initial petition to run for the Delaware school board after discovering potentially disqualifying defects, filed and was certified to run as a write-in candidate.
