Cocktails, food and plenty of male bonding will be part of Kindred Spirits, the annual fundraiser for Friends of Schiller Park.

The men-only party will be held at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 20, in the residence of Chris King and Rob Hunter, 356 E. Sycamore St. in Schumacher Place.

Tickets are $85 each and available at Admission includes food, beverages and cigars. Representatives from Land-Grant Brewing Co. will be at the party offering samples of beer.

“We’re excited to be able to host the Kindred Spirits event at our home this year,” King said.

“We just moved in a year ago. We purchased the house because we feel that it’s a great home to entertain friends and family.”

“I love it,” Hunter said. “It’s a wonderful place to live. It’s a great neighborhood for sure.”

The idea for Kindred Spirits came from two village residents – Dr. Bill Mains and Kelly Clark – as a way to raise funds for the park.

The event has raised about $7,500 each of the previous four years, said Katharine Moore, chairwoman of Friends of Schiller Park,

“It’s just a such a nice expression of support,” Moore said. “The money is very useful and the support is very appreciated.”

A separate event, held simultaneously for women at a different location, never had the same enthusiasm and was canceled last year, Moore said.

The evening will include a silent auction with “rare opportunities,” King said.

“It will surely be a rowdy night with a noble purpose,” he said.

“We hope that everyone can join us, make themselves at home, and enjoy a wonderful event to raise capital for friends of Schiller Park, one of our favorite parts of (German) Village.”
