A semitrailer driver faces a charge of vehicular manslaughter after a Westerville man died in a two-vehicle crash earlier this month in Orange Township.

Authorities responded to a report of a crash shortly before 1:45 p.m. Dec. 7 near the intersection of U.S. Route 23 and Hidden Ravines Drive, just south of Orange Road. The driver of a semitrailer heading north on Route 23 failed to yield and struck a southbound van attempting to turn east on Hidden Ravines Drive, according to a news release from the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

The van's driver and passenger were taken to a Columbus hospital for treatment with life-threatening injuries. The passenger, 89-year-old Leonard Dill of Westerville, died from his injuries, the release states.

The semitrailer driver, who was not injured, was charged with vehicular manslaughter, a second-degree misdemeanor, after the crash, according to the highway patrol.

The 58-year-old North Carolina man also was cited for failure to obey a traffic signal, the release states.

While the crash remains under investigation, authorities do not think alcohol played a role.
