The Violet Township Women's League will present a record amount in scholarship funds this year

Over the past 20 years, the Women's League has distributed close to $80,000 to help local students pay college and trade-school tuitions.

Thanks to the ongoing success of the club's annual style show that provides money for the scholarship program, that figure will rise above $90,000 when four new scholarships are awarded at this year's April 21 show.

"We're giving out four, $2,600 scholarships this year," said Melissa Stiles, publicity chairwoman for the style show.

"All proceeds from the style show that are over and above our expenses ... go to the scholarship fund. That's what we want to do with it."

The application deadline for the club's scholarships is March 31.

Any high school senior living in Pickerington or Violet Township, including home-schooled students is eligible to apply.

"This is our 21st year and (scholarship awards) have grown each year," Stiles said. "Last year, we had 36 students apply."

The winners of this year's scholarships will be announced at the style show, which is slated for 11:30 a.m., April 21 at the Jefferson Golf & Country Club, 7271 Jefferson Meadows Drive, Blacklick.

"We are a charitable organization and we want to give back to the community," Stiles said.

"Education and helping kids give back is very important to the members of our organization. Boys and girls can apply, and scholarships can be applied to trade schools. It doesn't have to be a four-year college."
