Bruce Hoover will resign as superintendent of Groveport Madison schools effective Friday, Feb. 9.

Hoover submitted his resignation to the school board during a special meeting Feb. 7.

In his letter, Hoover said that during his eight years as superintendent, he has been focused on “helping our students, families, teachers, support staff and community build an organization that creates positive opportunities for our students and restores the faith and trust of our taxpayers.”

However, he said, the death of his son, Nathan, last March led him to believe it’s time for him and his wife, Chris, “to seek new opportunities and a fresh start.”

Jeff Warner, the district’s communications director, said Hoover had recommended naming Deputy Superintendent John Hurd as interim superintendent. The school board is expected to meet Feb. 14 to confirm that appointment.
