Mount Carmel Health System's medical building in Hilliard is up and running, but the future of a planned small hospital at the site won't be announced for a few weeks, according to system officials.

Mount Carmel unveiled plans in 2016 for a $25.2 million hospital adjacent to the medical building at 4674 Britton Parkway but construction was postponed last summer after Mount Carmel ended a partnership with Adeptus Health, a company that operates freestanding emergency rooms and would have helped build and operate the hospital.

"In recent months, (the) financial position (of Adeptus) has deteriorated and its impact on plans for our partnership makes it necessary for us to part ways," Brett Justice, senior vice president of system strategy and system development for Mount Carmel Health System, said last year.

Mount Carmel spokeswoman Samantha Irons said the organization expects to make an announcement "later this spring" concerning the hospital.

Meanwhile, the new two-story Mount Carmel Hilliard facility is a $24 million, 60,000-square-foot medical-office campus at the southeast corner of Britton Parkway and Davidson Road.

It offers cardiovascular imaging, chronic-disease management, laboratory services, physical-therapy and rehabilitation services, ultrasounds and a variety of other imaging services, Irons said.

"This is a very exciting time for us, the community of Hilliard and the surrounding communities," said Sean McKibben, president of Mount Carmel West and Mount Carmel Grove City. "As health care changes and patients want faster, more convenient healthcare, this project demonstrates our commitment to providing patient-centered care and giving patients access to the care they need and want right in their community.

"We focused our mix of services here in Hilliard to reflect the care that is most-needed close to home."

A community open house that will include tours of the facility, promotional giveaways and children's activities is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 24, Irons said. To learn more, go to
