A collision with a parked New Albany Police Department cruiser left a driver hospitalized, according to New Albany officials.

The accident occurred at 3:28 p.m. Feb. 23 on westbound state Route 161 west of U.S. Route 62, said city spokesman Scott McAfee.

A police officer had pulled over a vehicle and was outside his cruiser talking to the driver, McAfee said. A third motorist lost control of her vehicle and struck the cruiser, he said.

The officer and the driver of the pulled-over vehicle were not injured, McAfee said.

The woman who hit the cruiser was taken to Mount Carmel St. Ann’s hospital and the city officials did not immediately know her condition, he said.

The city also is not releasing the name of the officer involved, he said.

As of Feb. 23, the motorist who hit the cruiser has not been charged, McAfee said, and the Ohio State Highway Patrol is handling the investigation.
