Hank & Tom’s Chatter Box bar – a longstanding, if somewhat obscure, neighborhood pub in south Columbus, has changed hands.

NAI Ohio Equities, the real-estate firm that brokered the deal, said the place has been sold to Ran Dezalovski, who has begun renovations on the space, 554 E. Whittier St.

“We want to create a new space for neighbors to gather but will continue the tradition and simplicity of the current space,” Dezalovski said in a prepared statement.

The neon sign in front is being restored and the interior will get some updates, according to NAI.

The sale included an adjacent house.

The venue, which was named Chatter Box in the 1940s, is one block east of Parsons Avenue in a structure that resembles a single-family house. Passersby could have missed the presence of Chatter Box during warmer months, as a large tree somewhat obscures the sign on the building.
