The Gahanna-Jefferson Public School District today, June 29, announced that Alissa Lopez is being recommended as the new principal at Royal Manor Elementary School.

Pending board approval on Monday, July 9, she is expected to fill the position that has been left vacant by the retirement of Richard Oxley Jr. Her new title would be effective Aug. 1.

“This opportunity to lead Royal Manor is an honor,” Lopez said. “I am passionate about strengthening the ties between our students, their families, the teachers and the community.”

Lopez has served in three buildings in the district, most recently as an English Language Learner teacher at Goshen Lane Elementary School for the last six years.

“Alissa has experience and passion for working with the families of Gahanna and has continually exhibited her commitment to meeting the needs of students and connecting with families,” said Steve Barrett, district superintendent. “She has extensive knowledge of curriculum, instruction and assessment.”

Lopez’ current salary is $74,060 as a teacher.

In her new position, she would have an annual salary of $108,764, plus a benefits package of $32,948, for a total annual package of $141,712.

After receiving over 90 applications for the position, a team of 20 teachers and eight administrators participated in the interview process.

Parents and teachers also filled out an online survey to provide input and submit questions for candidates.

“We are delighted to have Alissa move into her new role at Royal Manor Elementary and look forward to exciting things in the months ahead,” Barrett said.

Lopez received a master’s degree in education from Ohio State University in 2006.

She received her educational leadership license this year after completing an administrative internship at Goshen Lane Elementary School.
