Fried ice cream is a novelty in which a round of ice cream is dredged in batter and flash fried. It was at the height of its popularity about 30 years ago but has since faded from Mexican-restaurant menus.

ThisWeek staffers answer the question: Whatever happened to fried ice cream?

Dennis Laycock: It died when the last Chi-Chi's closed.

Lisa Proctor: It died with Chi-Chi's departure from central Ohio.

Nate Ellis: It's just waiting for fair season.

Andrew King: I’m pretty sure it exists, and it is delicious. Underrated, you might say.

Scott Hummel: It's still around. I think a lot of it was novelty that's worn off for most, but it's still around.

Neil Thompson: Chi-Chi's in central Ohio is gone but not forgotten.

Abby Armbruster: A Mexican restaurant in my hometown still serves it. Maybe that means the true "Midwest" cities have a firm hold on it.

Sarah Sole: That's a great question. I don't believe I've tried it.

Lee Cochran: Didn't that go by the wayside when Chi-Chi's closed?
