Local residents can try a Taste of Gahanna in the heart of the city this month.

Leslee Blake, president of the Gahanna Area Chamber of Commerce, said the 21st annual Taste of Gahanna will be held 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Aug. 30 at Creekside Plaza, 117 Mill St.

"Based on feedback from community leaders and partnerships, we wanted to grow the event but were limited on space," she said. "This is the heart of Olde Gahanna and part of business development. We're excited to bring our largest event to this part of Gahanna."

Because Taste of Gahanna is being held in the outdoor location, she said, it was decided to reschedule it to August from its traditional October dates.

Bill Montgomery, vice chairman of operations on the chamber's executive committee, said he's excited to have the event back in the city. In recent years, it was held outside of Gahanna.

"I know we've desperately wanted to have it back in Gahanna," he said. "In reality, there has never been a place large enough.

"In working with the city and Gahanna Convention & Visitors Bureau, we decided to use the venue we have. It's what our members and community have wanted," he said.

He said information about vendors, sponsorships and tickets can be found at http://taste.gahannaareachamber.com/.

Blake said this event provides an opportunity to try entrees and desserts from more than 20 Gahanna area restaurants, and to check out exhibitors and local artists displaying their talents.

Presented by sponsor Lew Griffin Insurance, Taste of Gahanna also will have live entertainment with local musicians, Montgomery said.

A new "Celebrity Chopped" contest will be held with special-guest chefs, including Gahanna Mayor Tom Kneeland and Gahanna-Jefferson Public Schools Superintendent Steve Barrett.

"They will be given ingredients and have to create a dish," Montgomery said.

Visitors will have the chance to vote for their favorite appetizer, entree and dessert to see who takes home the prize for the "People's Choice."

Blake said returning fan favorites include Nothing Bundt Cakes, Longhorn Steak House, Mi Tradicion and J. Gumbo's.

Other Gahanna area participants include 101 Beer Kitchen, Honey Baked Ham, Max & Erma's, Starbucks, Cap City Diner, Jet's Pizza, Soulshine Tavern & Kitchen, Piada, La Navona, Nazareth Deli, Kroger, Barrel & Boar, Smallcakes Cupcakery and Creamery, Pam's Popcorn and Old Bag of Nails.

Tickets cost $35 through Aug. 25 and $40 beginning Aug. 26.
