The Dublin City School District is being sued for the actions of a former Dublin Scioto High School teacher.

The father of a Dublin student has filed the suit in federal court. It alleges his daughter was not properly protected by the district from former teacher Gregory R. Lee, 53, who was sentenced in January to nearly 22 years in federal prison for taking nude photographs of a 15-year-old student and pleaded guilty Jan. 22 in state court to charges he had sex with the girl.

Franklin County Common Pleas Court Judge David E. Cain sentenced Lee to eight years in prison on the state charges, but ruled the sentence would run concurrently with Lee's sentence in the federal case.

The plaintiff and the student are referenced in the federal court filing as John and Jane Doe to protect their identities "because her being sexually victimized is not widely known and a matter that should be kept confidential to the maximum extent."

The suit alleges the district failed to effectively protect the girl and other minor female students from Lee by "neither monitoring him nor taking adequate precautions to prevent" repeated improper behavior, leading the student to "suffer serious and permanent injuries from his sexual activity with her."

Dublin school district officials sent a statement about the lawsuit via email.

It read, in part, "... this former teacher broke the law and betrayed us all. He is fully responsible for his acts. We've offered this family support and counseling. Now that there's a lawsuit, we won't be able to say more until the court case is over."
