Prairie Township's second annual Dash N Dine event, slated for Sept. 21, has been canceled due to low registration.
Officials decided to cancel it Sept. 14, after the Sept. 16 ThisWeek West Side News had gone to press with a story about the event.
In an email sent to residents, organizer Aaliyah Earvin, fitness supervisor at the Prairie Township Community Center, said new marketing strategies are being planned in the future "for this and future events."
Earvin said those who signed up to participate will receive full refunds, unless they decide to allow the fee they paid to be donated to the Prairie Township Community Foundation. The 5K/10K race and block party-style event was planned to benefit the Prairie Township Community Fund and efforts to develop an "adaptive" field at the township's Galloway Road Sports Complex for use by people with mobility challenges.
There was no cost to attend Dash N Dine, but runners/walkers had to register and pay a fee of either $35 or $50 for the 5K and 10K, respectively.
The township hopes to host a similar event in the future, recreation director James Gant said.
