A new logo that reads, "Crafted in Canal Winchester," has been appearing in social-media advertising, online and at area businesses as the city begins a campaign to draw attention to its craft-beer brewers, parks, festivals, restaurants and others.

"Come to Canal Winchester: It's crafted just for you" is a trademarked slogan on a new website -- www.craftedincanalwinchester.org -- featuring information about city events, history and attractions.

"What we've found is that outside of maybe the southeast part of Franklin County, there are a lot of folks in central Ohio who really don't know what Canal Winchester is," Development Director Lucas Haire said.

"Maybe they've driven by on (U.S. Route) 33 but never stopped and done anything."

The city collaborated with Destination: Canal Winchester, its nonprofit economic development and tourism organization, and local advertising and digital marketing firm PPA to craft a $20,000 campaign.

The website features many images from events such as Canal Winchester's Labor Day Festival, Blues & Ribfest, Art Stroll, Music & Art in the Park and the National Barber Shop Museum and Hall of Fame. The barber shop museum and hall of fame opened in a new location earlier this year.

"A lot of our draw for people is coming from Lancaster and maybe Carroll and Pickerington and those areas, but we're not gaining people from outside of those areas, and we should be," Haire said.

The city also is making a name for itself in the craft-beer business, with Loose Rail Brewing at 37 W. Waterloo St. and BrewDog USA's headquarters and hotel in Canal Winchester on a 42-acre site at 96 Gender Road.

The website also touts the city's "boutique shopping and various vintage places stocked full of antiques and homemade finds."

Karen Stiles, executive director of Destination: Canal Winchester, credits Haire for coming up with the "creative" slogan.

The new campaign includes paid, targeted advertising on social-media channels designed to drive potential visitors to the Crafted in Canal Winchester website, which offers a tool kit with a variety of items local businesses can use to share their stories and attract new customers.

Tool-kit items include different versions of the logo in different colors, printable posters, tabletop inserts, logos and letterhead, plus sample posts and shareable graphics for social media.

"It's really an exciting time to live in Canal Winchester and visit Canal Winchester," Stiles said. "Hopefully, it's going to help people find us."
