Those who dare to go to the "CarnEVIL" at Gahanna Lincoln High School should be prepared to be scared.
Cindi Macioce, high school drama director, said this year's haunt, produced by the International Thespian Students, is more of a psycho scare than one of gore.
The psychological thriller will be set up from 7 to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Oct. 19 and 20, at Gahanna Lincoln, 140 S. Hamilton Road.
Reagan Mounts, president of the International Thespian Students, said the haunt will take place in the high school auditorium and the little theater.
"It's a circus carnival theme," she said. "There are a lot of plays off of the old-time traveling circus."
Mounts said it's good for a thrill.
"Not having a permanent space, we can't do as many jump scares," she said. "What we decided was something more plot-driven (that) has a story line. It's more psychological."
Senior Aidan Cahir will welcome guests in his role as the ringmaster.
"Come one, come all to the special show, and see all the amazing acts we have to offer," he said. "No two tours will be the same."
Senior Laura Cox, who plays a spooky acrobat, said the haunt was so popular last year that hours were extended the last day, because it was a sell-out.
She anticipates clowns will be a focus at this year's attraction.
"There's jump scares," Cox said. "It's that frightening."
"Expect to be shaken up," added senior Hattie Benedetti, who will be part of the cast as a scary clown.
Senior Haley Peters said she also will scare guests in her role as a creepy clown.
Senior Maddie Hibbs, who plays a fortune teller, said she anticipates a lot of bad readings for those who visit her at "CarnEVIL."
Macioce said 30 to 40 students are involved in the project, which is in its second year.
She said the effort involves other Gahanna Lincoln students who aren't in the International Thespian Students group.
The cost is $5 and the proceeds will help the Performing Arts Boosters fund theater projects during the year, Macioce said.
Anyone under the age of 18 must have a waiver signed by a parent or guardian before going through the haunt.
Waivers are posted at gahannatheatre.com. The event will be tweeted out from the Gahanna Lincoln ITS Twitter account.
