Get back in the stacks and support Worthington Libraries during the fourth annual Books and Brews, an after-hours event the Friends Foundation of Worthington Libraries will present Nov. 2.

Participants will be treated to seven to eight tastings of high-quality Ohio craft beer, including samples from Fat Head's, Jackie O's, MadTree, Rhinegeist, Rockmill, Saucy Brew Works, Seventh Son, Sideswipe Brewing, Wolf's Ridge, Zaftig and others. Brewery representatives will be available, if you have questions about what you're quaffing.

In addition to beer (and wine, for those who prefer grapes to grains), there will be food from area restaurants, a silent auction and beer trivia contest.

The fundraiser, which again is sponsored by First Financial Bank, is planned from 7 to 10 p.m. at Old Worthington Library, 820 High St.

A capacity crowd attended last year's event. In addition to the money received from people who joined the Friends just to attend, $8,000 in net proceeds was raised to support library programs.

Tickets for Books and Brews are $35 for members of the Friends Foundation of Worthington Libraries; $45 for nonmembers. Those who join the Friends to attend this event will receive a commemorative beer glass. Participants must be 21 years old to purchase tickets. Go to and search for "Books and Brews."

The Friends Foundation of Worthington Libraries provides nearly $60,000 to support the library system. Thanks to the Friends, there are homework-help centers at all three library locations, and area families annually are treated to a music series at both Old Worthington Library and Northwest Library. The organization also fully funds the library's annual summer reading club.
