Frugal Olentangy Valley shoppers have a new grocery-store option with the opening of Aldi on Sawmill Parkway.

Situated at 9965 Sawmill Parkway in Liberty Township, the new Aldi opens Thursday, Nov. 8.

Sarah Brown, Springfield division vice president for Aldi, said the new location was "a natural fit."

"When it comes to choosing store locations, we look at many factors," she said. "We want the best sites that are closest to our shoppers and can support a high daily traffic volume. As the demand for Aldi grows, so do our real-estate options. Bottom line, we want to be conveniently located for our shoppers."

Brown said the new Aldi will have an increased focus on organic and "easy-to-prepare" options, and will increase fresh food options by 40 percent.

Though an Aldi already sits at 8156 Orange Center Drive in Orange Township, Brown said the Liberty Township location fills a need.

"We believe everyone deserves high-quality food at affordable prices, and our new Powell location will bring the community an even better grocery-shopping option designed to save people time and money," she said.

Aldi already has opened a Plain City location in 2018 and Brown said the company plans to open "several" more stores in 2019 as it expands throughout central Ohio.

She said the company also is about halfway through a $34 million store-remodeling project that will update 21 stores in central Ohio.

"The grocery landscape, including the central Ohio market, has experienced a perfect storm of price pressures, heightened competition and increased expectations from shoppers," she said. "Aldi is known for setting the standard for quality and affordability, and our innovative business model gives us the flexibility to adapt quickly, even in this ever-changing grocery landscape."

The new location has garnered buzz on local social-media networks, and Brown said the company has heard it, too.

"The Powell community has given us a warm welcome, and we're looking forward to introducing the Aldi difference to new local customers," she said. "We appreciate the support and are excited to serve the community in the years to come."

A ribbon-cutting for the new location was set for 8:30 a.m. Nov. 8, with a "golden ticket" giveaway and other events planned for opening day.
