A former South-Western City Schools middle-school teacher was placed on probation Nov. 27 for five years for downloading and sharing child pornography.
Michael J. Walsh, 62, of Grove City, pleaded guilty in October to one count of pandering sexually oriented matter involving a minor.
Franklin County Common Pleas Judge David Young warned Walsh he would send him to prison for seven years if he violates the terms of probation. Walsh also must register as a sex offender every six months for 25 years.
Walsh was arrested in April 2017 after an investigation by the Franklin County Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.
Investigators conducted a search of his residence and seized computers and data-storage devices that contained multiple videos and images of young children engaging in sexual activity with adults.
Walsh taught for 20 years at Pleasant View Middle School, most recently teaching a series of three career-exploration classes.
The district put him on administrative leave immediately after he was arrested, and he retired a few days later. He was indicted six months ago.
None of the criminal counts related to anything on school grounds, a South-Western district spokeswoman said, nor did the crimes involve any South-Western students.
