Following are Columbus and Franklin County Metropolitan Park District programs for Dec. 27 through Jan. 3.

Battelle Darby Creek Metro Park

1775 Darby Creek Drive, Galloway

Friday Night Movie "Charlie and the Curious Otters," 6:30 p.m. Dec. 28 at the Nature Center. Guests can follow the story of three orphaned river otters and learn about these animals.

Christmas Bird Count, 8:30 a.m. Dec. 29 at the Nature Center. Guests can search for feathered friends as part of the National Audubon Christmas Count, then tally results and drink hot chocolate.

Movie Matinee Wild Kratts: Creature Adventures, 1 p.m. Dec. 29 at the Nature Center. Guests can watch two Wild Kratts episodes, "Build it Beaver" and "Bass Class," to learn more about two animals that can be found within the park.

Movie Matinee "Disney Nature: Earth," 1 p.m. Dec. 30 at the Nature Center. Guests can learn about the yearly challenge for survival of three species: polar bears, African bush elephants and humpback whales.

Blacklick Woods Metro Park

6975 E. Livingston Ave., Reynoldsburg

Nature Babies, 10 a.m. Dec. 28 at the Nature Center. Children ages 2 and younger can explore animals and the change of seasons through books. Caregivers will learn nature signs in American Sign Language.

Wildlife Observation Night, 6 to 8 p.m. Dec. 28 at the Nature Center. Guests can catch a glimpse of nocturnal critters through the viewing windows.

New Year, New List, 10 a.m. Jan. 1 at the Nature Center. Guests can join on a 2-mile walk to search the trails for birds.

Blendon Woods Metro Park

4265 E. Dublin-Granville Road, Westerville

Family Fun: Feed the Birds, noon to 3 p.m. Dec. 27 at the Nature Center. Guests can make a treat for birds.

Metro Five-0: Feed the Birds, 2 p.m. Dec. 28 at the Nature Center. Guests ages 50 and older can learn about bird feeder styles and what food attracts common winter birds, then make a simple feeder to take home.

Winter Break Scavenger Hunt, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dec. 27 through Jan. 2 at the Nature Center. Guests can stop by to see how many hidden critters they can find.

New Year Bird Hike, 8 a.m. Jan. 1 at the Nature Center. Guests can begin the new year exploring the park and looking for the birds.

Glacier Ridge Metro Park

9801 Hyland Croy Road, Plain City

Christmas Bird Count, 8 to 11 a.m. Dec. 31 at the Maintenance Shop. Visitors ages 8 and older can search for birds as part of the National Audubon Society's Christmas Bird Count.

Highbanks Metro Park

9466 U.S. Route 23 N., Lewis Center

For Kids: Outdoor Winter Games, 1 p.m. Jan. 3 at the Big Meadows Picnic Area. Children ages 3-15 can play games in an open field and learn to have fun in the cold.

Homestead

4675 Cosgray Road, Hilliard

For Kids: Animal Tracking, 2 p.m. Dec. 28 at the Nature Center. Children ages 5-12 can use detective skills to find out which animals live in the park.

Rocky Fork Metro Park

7180 Walnut St., Westerville

Look for Owls, 6 p.m. Dec. 29 at the Millstone Shelter. Guests can search for owls that spend the winter here.

Scioto Audubon Metro Park

400 W. Whittier St., Columbus

Pre-K Storytime, 10 a.m. Thursdays and Saturdays at the Grange Insurance Audubon Center, 505 W. Whittier St. Bring little ones for a nature-inspired story or two.

Weekly Bird Hikes, 10 a.m. Saturdays at the Grange Insurance Audubon Center. Guests will learn how to use binoculars and search for birds.

Winter Warm-Up Days, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Dec. 27 and 28 as well as Jan. 3 and 4 at the Grange Insurance Audubon. Guests can participate in crafts, games, stories, movies and songs by the fire.

Sharon Woods Metro Park

6911 Cleveland Ave., Westerville

Family Fun: New Year's Eve Open House Party, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dec. 30 at the Spring Hollow Lodge. Families can stop by anytime to celebrate the New Year with games, activities and crafts.

Preschoolers Plus: New Year's Open House Party, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dec. 31 at the Spring Hollow Lodge. Children ages 3-7 and caregivers can stop by anytime to celebrate the New Year with games, activities and crafts.

Slate Run Living Historical Farm

1375 state Route 674 N., Canal Winchester

Smoked, Salted, Pickled and Preserved, 1 to 3 p.m. Dec. 30 at the Farmhouse. Guests can learn how fruits, vegetables and meats were preserved before the days of artificial refrigeration. The smokehouse will be operating.

Three Creeks Park

3860 Bixby Road, Groveport

Last of the Year Birding, 1:30 p.m. Dec. 30 at the Confluence Area. Guests can take a relaxing walk to search for winter birds.
