A man whom the Hilliard Division of Police said attempted to steal a rotisserie chicken Feb. 6 from Kroger, 4656 Cemetery Road in Hilliard, by stuffing it into his pants is in jail on unrelated charges.

As of Feb. 19, investigators still were working to identify a woman seen with the man on video cameras at the store, said Andrea Litchfield, a police division spokeswoman.

At 12:50 p.m. Feb. 6, the man and woman used clothing to conceal merchandise from the store, police said.

The woman hid a bottle of tequila in her coat but the man, after walking around for a few minutes, had second thoughts about the chicken and removed it.

Police released the video surveillance footage and the man was identified and is in jail on unrelated charges, Litchfield said.

Hilliard police have not filed charges for the attempted chicken theft but the case remains under investigation, she said.

However, because of the ongoing investigation, she said, she would not reveal the nature of the unrelated charges, which agency arrested him, where he was being held or even his age and city of residence.

The woman is described as between 20 and 30 years old and was seen wearing jeans, a black long-sleeve shirt and a black mid-length coat, Litchfield said.

Anyone with further information about the incident or the woman is asked to call officer Jim Large at 614-334-2541.
