This photo, taken in 1980, shows what now is called the “Hospital Curve” being created on state Route 315.
OhioHealth Riverside Methodist Hospital appears at the upper right.
“Work is progressing on the final two sections of the 10.5-mile Olentangy Freeway,” The Columbus Dispatch reported.
There were two unfinished sections in 1980.
This one consisted of 2.2 miles from Ackerman Road north to Henderson Road and included the bridge over Olentangy River Road near its intersection with West North Broadway.
The other was the north section, 2.9 miles from Bethel Road north to Interstate 270.
The freeway had been in the works since the early 1960s and linked downtown Columbus north to I-270.
The last link – the one shown here – opened in July 1981.
